More than 2,100 individuals participated in the NAR survey and 74 percent of them have a greater desire to stay at home after finishing a home remodel. Sixty-five percent mentioned that they enjoy their space more and 77 percent felt a sense of accomplishment with completing home upgrades. Researchers looked into 20 projects and asked for the opinion of realtors and consumers on home improvement projects. The organization calculated a joy score for each project, which ranges from one to 10. Projects with a higher joy score brought more satisfaction to homeowners.

New Windows – The joy that comes with completing a window replacement project usually comes from increased functionality and livability. Around 47 percent of respondents mentioned that they wanted to upgrade their windows to boost their home’s energy efficiency. This project has an almost perfect joy score of 9.6.
Entry Door Replacement – According to the survey results, new front doors don’t only increase resale value but happiness as well. Most of the respondents felt a greater need to be home because of their new entry door. An entry door replacement has a joy score of 9.7.
Complete Interior Paint Job – One of the easiest ways to give your home a refresh is by repainting your exterior. It will improve your living space and also boost your mood. This home improvement project has a 9.8 joy score.
